Another day, another clutch goal from Alvaro Martinez Torres.
The Spaniard has made all the right moves over the last 19 days. Since the calendar turned to October, the Bears have gone unbeaten in six matches and Martinez Torres has scored the game-winner in three of them, including the lone goal in this afternoon’s 1-0 win over Pierson.
Martinez Torres tucked in a first half goal, thanks to a beautiful assist from Khendrick Beausoleil, and the Blue and White defense ensured the lone tally would stand. More than just bragging rights were on the line today between the two rivals. Our boys avenged a 4-1 loss to the Whalers on Sept. 11 and moved into a tie with Pierson for second place in League VIII with one game to play.
Since losing to Southold, 2-1, on Sept. 24 and falling to 0-3 on the season, the Bears have engineered a magical run, during which they have outscored their opponents 29-3 and recorded five shutouts.
They close the regular season tomorrow at Southold, owners of this year’s League Championship and an undefeated record.
