Yesterday, at the Tom Knipfing Memorial Cross Country Invitational, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams turned in some fine performances, littered with personal best times.
In the Varsity B race, Miranda Harrigan paced the Bears with a 2nd place finish in a time of 20:36. Harrigan was narrowly out-kicked at the line by Shoreham’s Payton Capes-Davis by just 0.20 seconds. Cianka Haynes (6th/23:23) and Danielle Sivertsen (9th/23:57) also earned top ten finishes. On their heels were Nicole Gray (11th/24:06) and Sam Taveras (12th/24:16) to round out Stony Brook’s scoring. The girls defeated Rocky Point by three points but were edged by Shoreham-Wading River by three to claim 2nd place.
The boys also defeated Rocky Point to earn a second place finish in the Varsity B race. Justin Moreno (5th/19:27), Lucas Otero-Novas Gomez (7th/19:40), Pieter van Zeijts (11th/19:51), Hyun Cho (14th/20:59), and Joshua Lin (16th/21:08) scored for the Brook.
