The 1926 gridders

On this day 89 years ago, the football team opened the season with a 7-0 win over East Hampton.

“Although the game turned out to be the most like a nightmare,” as Res Gestae 1927 recounted, “the fellows did finally manage to score, the game ending 7-0.”  Unfortunately, during the contest captain John Bradshaw’s leg was broken, placing him on the sideline for the remainder of the season. “The team surely missed the tricky plunging that Bradshaw is noted for. This year the team missed all the kick and fight stored up in the fighting little Irishman. Although out of the game, he was with the team in spirit at all times, working for the best results.”

The Brook would go on to finish 5-1 that season with five shutouts, outscoring their opponents 120-14.
