The 1998 swim squad set a team record with 8 wins

Every afternoon since the last week in August, a newly renovated Swanson Natatorium has echoed with the sounds of loud music and enthusiastic cheering. After a 12-year hiatus, swimming is back at the Brook.

Though it has never hung a team banner, the girls’ swimming program has produced some of Stony Brook’s most successful individual athletes at both the high school and collegiate levels. Both Ann Marie Wycoff ’85 and Amanda Shapiro ’04 swam in the New York State Championships for the Blue and White before going on to even greater success in college. Wycoff won nine National Championships and garnered 19 All-America honors while swimming for West Point. Shapiro reset innumerable records at Wesleyan University and was a five-time All-American.

This season, a new crop of swimmers will seek to etch their own names into the storied record book and carve out their own place in the history of Stony Brook Swimming.
