Erik Holvik pitched a gem yesterday in an 11-1 victory over Greenport. The senior right-hander tossed a complete game, three-hitter and fanned nine Porters, a career high, in his finest pitching performance to date.

Before he even stepped on the mound, his team gave him a four-run cushion, jumping all over the Porters’ hurler in the 1st inning. The first five Bears reached base as Ben Walter singled and reached third base on an error, Josh Zhang singled, Holvik doubled, and Ben Tutuska and David Choi followed with singles.

The Bears continued to pour it on at the plate, punctuated by Walter’s two-run home run that sailed over the center field fence. Holvik completed a great all-around afternoon by recording three hits at the plate to go along with his mastery on the mound.

The Bears will face Greenport at home today in the rubber match of their series.
