On this day 58 years ago, the baseball team topped Riverdale, 4-0, behind a pitching gem from Ric Saukkonen.

It was a pitcher’s duel for five innings before the Blue and White finally broke through with a tally. Riverdale had no such luck on that day. Saukkonen, a sophomore, pitched a 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts to send Riverdale back to the Bronx after a dominant shutout. Frank Visted led the Brooker offense with two of the team’s four hits while Saukkonen recorded a hit and came across with a run.
