On Sunday afternoon, Emily Andersen ’11 and the William Smith College rowing team won the varsity eight race over #15 Rochester.
The Herons, currently ranked 7th nationally in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll, knifed through the waters of the Genesee River to build an early lead. They then responded to the pleas of their coxswain by increasing their edge in the turns. By the final turn, the Herons held a sizable lead with nothing but open water between them and their opponent. They increased their advantage over the final 500 meters to finish in a time of 20.73 while Rochester finished in 27.71.
Andersen and William Smith will next enter the water on April 4 in a tri-meet with Wellesley, New Hampshire, and Washington (MD).
