On this day 13 years ago, Caitlin Banks ’00 scored 4 goals to lead the University of Virginia to a 17-16 upset over #6 Maryland.

The Cavaliers opened the game with a 6-0 scoring surge, two of which were scored by Banks just a minute apart. Banks’ third goal gave Virginia a commanding 8-1 lead and her fourth pushed the lead to 10-2. The Terrapins would claw back into the game late, but Virginia’s early offense was just enough to stave them off for the first win over their conference rival since 1993.
