On this day 22 years ago, the wrestling team claimed the Martin Luther High School Tournament championship.

The Bears traveled to Queens and emerged the victors out of the nine-team field by placing seven wrestlers in the finals of their respective weight classes. Out of those seven Adam Belesimo (126 lbs), Rich Droscoski (135 lbs), Hanif Granville (160 lbs), and Pat Noto (250 lbs) earned individual championships for the Brook. Belesimo, trailing 1-2 early in his match, used a Russian Roll to pin his Riverdale opponent while Droscoski pushed through flu-like symptoms to dominate Mitch Rosen of Collegiate.

Also placing for the Bears were Mike Hoskins (2nd place/103 lbs), Dan Mordente (3rd/140 lbs), JiWeon Yun (2nd/145 lbs), Carl Trezza (3rd/177 lbs), and Gabriel Chagas (2nd/215 lbs).
