On this day 64 years ago, the basketball team edged South Huntington, 50-47, despite 24 points from the Wildcats’ star center Jackie Grimes.

Harry Lindland and Scott Humphrey netted 19 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the Brook, but it was the junior varsity squad that inadvertently had the largest impact on the game. The younger squad played before the varsity and was whipped 48-26 by Huntington, largely due to the pressure defense their hosts employed. Coach Floyd Johnson witnessed the barrage and prepared some counters in the interim, anticipating a similar press from the varsity. His instincts were right as Huntington attempted to use a trapping defense that the Brook was able to break without consequence on the way to a victory.
