Tim Pandolfi ’11 scored 14 points this evening to lead DeSales University to a 59-46 victory over Penn State Wilkes-Barre. In just his second career game for the Bulldogs, he was chosen to start in place of an injured teammate and his results did not disappoint. Our former point guard was 3-for-5 from the field and 7-for-9 from the foul line, to go along with 2 assists and a steal, helping DeSales improve to 2-0 on the season.
In his time with the Bears, Pandolfi was a three-time All-State selection and an All-County honoree. In 2010 he led the boys’ basketball team on an incredible playoff run that few will soon forget. In the County Championship against an undefeated Southold squad, he scored 27 points, including 12 of the Bears’ final 13, to down the Settlers. The signature shot of his career came with 20 seconds left in the game and the Bears down by one. The entire gym seemed to constrict with the weight of the moment. Pandolfi, however, coolly stepped back five feet behind the 3-point arc and let go the biggest shot of his life to give the Bears a 47-45 lead, their first of the final frame. The boys would go on to win 50-48.
Four days later he scored 20 points, including five 3-pointers, to win the Class C/D County Title over Greenport. In the following week’s Long Island Championship, he notched a game-high 16 points, but it was his defense that sealed the program’s first LI title. With the Brook up by three with just over a minute remaining, Pandolfi stole the ball and raced down court for the layup, giving the Blue and White a five-point lead with just 48 seconds remaining.
In his senior season, despite getting off to a slow start with an offseason knee injury, he led Long Island in scoring, averaging 27.3 points per game. On January 28, 2011 he became just the sixth member of the 1,000 Point Club in a virtuoso 38-point performance over rival Port Jeff.
