On this day 13 years ago, the volleyball team won the first contest ever held in the newly renovated Swanson Gymnasium, avenging an early season loss in the process.
During the 2000-2001 school year, the athletic teams that would normally call Swanson Gymnasium home, instead became known as the “Road Warriors” as they played every single contest at away sites while a new maple floor was installed and upgrades were made to the natatorium and the weight room.
Playing against Eastport, the girls flipped the script on an early season 2-3 loss, winning the contest 3-2 in front of a boisterous home crowd. The win gave the girls a 7-5 regular season record, securing their spot in the Suffolk County playoffs. The win was especially significant for Diane Addison, Lauren Johnson, and Reiko Harigaya, seniors on the squad who were able to play their last game in their home gym.
