On this day one year ago, the girl’s soccer team defeated Babylon, 2-1, a little over two weeks after falling to the Panthers, 5-1. Annie Skorobohaty opened up the scoring for the Brook before Emily Pius gave the Bears a two-goal cushion, scoring off of a free kick from 20 yards out with 11 minutes left in the first half. Babylon would later cut the deficit in half, but the defense, anchored by freshman Fiona Farrell’s 13 saves, successfully stymied Babylon’s potent offense to hand them their first league loss of the year. At the time the Panthers were the 9th-ranked Class B team in New York State.
Babylon eventually went on to the Class B County Championship where they fell in penalty kicks to Center Moriches. The Bears would go on to win the Class C Championship in one of the most thrilling comebacks in Stony Brook history.
