The Stony Brook athletic year may have ended in the beginning of June, but the Bears have not taken a day off. While others have been relaxing at the beach during the dog days, our best and brightest athletes have been preparing to take the reigns from the successful class of 2011.
Tyler Abrahamsen (Golf/Basketball) – Four hours of practice a day on the links has paid dividends for the rising junior. He has recorded four rounds of 70 at the difficult St. George’s Country Club as well as scores of 71 and 72 at Willow Creek in Mt. Sinai. He also finished runner-up in a tournament in Montauk and has another tournament in Pennsylvania this weekend.
Tylah Gantt (Tennis) – The senior is getting in a lot of match play while focusing her training on movement and balance.
Ryan Haas (Baseball) – The senior slugger just finished filming his recruiting video and is in the process of sending it out to various colleges. His Long Island Mudcats travel baseball team is currently 11-3-2.
Don Liotine (Football/Baseball) – It’s been a busy summer for the rising junior. He is training at Infiniti Performance Strength and Speed three days a week and hitting the weights at Fitness Plus twice a week. He also attended two college showcases for baseball.
Marco Masakayan (Football/Basketball/Track) – The junior is staying fit by lifting and playing basketball on his AAU team. He is currently in the Bahamas playing in basketball tournaments for a team representing the United States. While in the islands he has also been working with internationally-known trainers Gannon Baker and Michael Lancaster.
Ariana Odom (Basketball) – Aside from workouts at Stony Brook with SBS alum Steve Harney ’04, she is doing speed and agility training at LA Fitness and practicing and playing in tournaments with her Running Rebels AAU team. She also attended a camp at St. John the Baptist in June.
Brandon Odom (Basketball) – It has been a summer of non-stop training for the sophomore point guard. He is working one-on-one with his trainer as well as training with his brother Rod Odom ’09, a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt University, and a slew of Division I players and international professionals. He will also be attending an elite camp at the end of August.
Margot Rashba (Cross County/Track) – The reigning individual Class D County Champion in cross country is running and working out as often as she can while also doing a seven-week theatre camp. She will also attend the Foundation XC running camp before August is out.
Madison Rylands (Soccer) – The junior is scrimmaging with Desert Wind, her old club team, during the hot Saudi Arabian summer.
Jerome Washington (Football/Basketball) – Our All-Conference wide receiver is lifting and running throughout the entire summer and attended a two-day offensive and defensive camp at Stony Brook University. He will also attend a two-week session at the Parisi Speed School this month.
