Girls’ Track 2011: Season Review

Hollis could have her sights set on plenty of more records over the next 5 seasons

While the team record may not indicate it, 2011 was another successful season for the girls’ track squad. A resounding defeat of the Ross School and close losses to Babylon and Center Moriches were not the sum total of the team’s accomplishments as there were plenty of individual honors to go around this season. Seventh-grader Rebecca Hollis set the school record in the 400 hurdles in 70.02 while freshman Rebecca Shin reset her own school record three separate times in the 1500 walk, finally settling at 8:20.38. In the postseason, freshman Margot Rashba and Hollis each qualified for the County Championships and showed great promise for the coming years.

It is always difficult to say goodbye to our graduating seniors each spring and the leadership of Donna Liotine, Tadiwa Madenga, Ayana Aaron, Kara Lee, Emma Moley, Ashley Cho, Christine Brathwaite, and Brianna Stiklickas will be greatly missed. However, there is plenty of youth ready to take up the mantle next season as Rashba, Shin, Hollis, Allie Damianos, Kathy Kim, Emily Pius, Shannon Kelly, Megan Robbins, and Gianna Scavo will lead the team.
