On This Day in History | 1985

The Shrikes | Philipps (Kneeling, left), Sandbo (Kneeling, right), Phillips (2nd row, 2nd from left), Haas (2nd row, 3rd from left), Alioth (2nd row, 3rd from right) & Dambra (Back, 3rd from right)

On this day 26 years ago, the baseball team rolled Center Moriches, 16-2, behind the bats of Brad Phillips and Dean Sandbo and the arm of Doug Alioth. The Red Devils came across the plate first, but the Shrikes struck back in their half of the 1st inning by tacking on eight runs. The first five Brookers reached base as Rob Dambra led off with a triple, Phillips, Sandbo, and Greg Philipps followed with walks, and Alioth reached on an error by the shortstop. The eight-run 1st was all offense the Blue and White would need as Alioth settled in on the mound, allowing just 6 hits and one earned run over six innings while striking out four.

Dambra went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and 4 runs, knocking in a single, a double, and a triple. Phillips went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs while Sandbo went 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs. As a team the Shrikes had 10 hits and 7 stolen bases.
