Carmel Closes Two-Sport Career at New Paltz

This February, Peter Carmel ’07 wrapped up his two-sport career at SUNY-New Paltz. During his career with the Hawks he was a member of the soccer and basketball teams competing in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

On the soccer pitch, Carmel started 11 games as a junior, making 53 saves for a .726 save percentage. Two highlights included his first collegiate shutout on September 6th, 2009, a 3-0 victory over Hunter College, and a career-high 13 saves in a 3-2 win over Vassar College on September 13th, 2009. For his career he tallied an impressive 140 stops between the posts.

On the court, Carmel played in all but one of the Hawk’s games this season, averaging 11.6 minutes a night as a vital reserve. As a junior he appeared in all 25 of the team’s contests and was named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team.

While at the Brook, Carmel was an All-State soccer, basketball, and track athlete, helping to lead our basketball team to the 2007 County Championship. He was also a member of our 4 x 100-meter relay team that set the school record in 2007 while making a run at the State Championship.
