
On this day 33 years ago, the boys’ basketball traveled to Southold and won a thrilling game, 75-73. The pace of the contest was frenetic from the start as the Shrikes took the opening quarter, 22-19. The Brook battled the Settlers to a 17-17 standstill in the second quarter and took a 39-36 edge into the break.
The third frame, however, was disastrous as the Blue and White lost the quarter, 2-18, and trailed by thirteen entering the final quarter. What ensued was an offensive explosion from the Shrikes as they scored 34 in the quarter to Southold’s 19 and pulled out an incredible comeback victory. Dave Wilson led the charge in the final eight minutes, scoring 17 in the fourth to galvanize the Brook. Wilson finished with 23 points, Brad Hargrave scored 17, including 8 in the final quarter, John Scanlon chipped in with 16, and Mark Whitney added 11.
