The Blue and White | Bennett (#5), Skripak (5th from right) & Malachuk (3rd from right)

On this day 53 years ago, Stony Brook Hall of Famer Allan Malachuk led the Blue and White to a 62-55 win over Horace Mann to help them improve to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Ivy League. Malachuk, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, got hot early as he scored 9 in the first quarter to lead the Brook to a 25-17 edge that they never relinquished.

Malachuk, who had poured in 40 points against Friends Academy on December 17th, finished with 31 to lead all scorers. Co-captain Dick Skripak added 10 points and Robert Bennett chipped in with 9. Malachuk would go on to win a second straight Ivy League Player of the Year Award by the season’s end.
