On this day 73 years ago, the wrestling team began their season in fine style as they outlasted Patchogue in a tightly contested match. The Brook had an inauspicious beginning to the contest as they dropped the first four matches, two coming on pins. Fred Byerly finally snapped the cold streak by pinning his opponent in just 36 seconds.
Captain Norm Aarseth wrestled his man to a draw in the 155-pound class and Bob Boehm won the following match. Norm Bickford easily won in the 175-pound class, setting up a thrilling final showdown for his brother Paul Bickford in the 185-pound class. Bickford battled his man for two rounds, then, with a mere 40 seconds left on the clock, pinned his man to give the Blue and White the win, 20 1/2 to 18 1/2.
