On this day 55 years ago…

In the basketball team’s season opener, sophomore Allan Malachuk led the Brook with 18 points to down Hackensack, 51-45, in Carson Gymnasium. In the first game of Malachuk’s Hall of Fame career, he kept the Blue and White afloat early, scoring 6 points in the first quarter as the home team trailed, 7-9. Dennis Fiedler scored 6 of his 10 points in the second frame as the boys took a 23-18 lead into the half. Leading 37-30 going into the final quarter, the Brookers rode the play of Malachuk who scored 8 in the final period to seal the win.
