For the second year in a row, the girls’ cross country team earned the Suffolk County Championship for Class D, a victory that could not have been further from their minds after they fell in their opening meet to Southold. However, after their initial defeat, the girls won three of their final four meets to finish 3-2, setting up a rematch with Southold in the County Championship. The girls got their revenge on the Settlers, downing them, 24-31, to earn the fourth County Title in girls’ cross country history.
Freshman Margot Rashba set the pace for the Brook, defeating Southold’s top senior and reigning County Champion, Ivy Croteau, to become the first individual County Champion since Alexis Fernandez in 2008. The future continues to look bright as four of the top five runners will return to attempt to make it a trifecta of championships next fall.
