On this day 46 years ago…

Stony Brook Hall of Famer Peter Randall continued his sensational senior cross country season by outclassing the field at the 18th Annual Fordham University Eastern Interscholastic Cross Country Championships. With the win, Randall became the second of three Brookers to win the prestigious title, joining Robin Lingle in 1959 and later Richard Shay in 1968 and 1969.

Randall blazed the famous paths at Van Cortlandt Park, setting the course record for the second time of three occasions that season in 12:42, obliterating the previous mark of 13:03. His teammate and fellow Hall of Famer, Glenn Ogden, also made it in under the previous milestone, cruising to 3rd place in a time of 12:52. It was Randall’s third of four major victories on the Bronx course that year. In the preceding weeks he cut the tape at the NYU and St. John’s Invitationals and later reestablished the course record in the Ivy League Championship.
