On This Day in History | 1934

On this day 76 years ago…

In the eighth meeting of the annual match-up, the football team defeated St. Paul’s, 19-6, to take a 5-3 lead in the all-time series. Ivor Petersen had an incredible day for the Blue and White, accounting for all of the Brook’s 19 points. The fullback grabbed the lead in the first quarter, running the ball into the end zone then drop-kicking the ball through the uprights for a 7-0 lead.

When St. Paul’s fumbled deep in their own territory in the third quarter, Petersen seized control of the game by running the ball over the goal line. After St. Paul’s scored a touchdown of their own on a Stony Brook miscue, Petersen put the game away in the final quarter with his third score of the day.

With efficient line blocking the Stony Brook backs found little trouble in tearing holes in the left side of the Maroon line.
