On this day 70 years ago…
In the inaugural game of Stony Brook’s 19th football season, our weekend warriors downed South Huntington, 24-9, to begin the year on a winning note. The boys scored twice in the first quarter, then added a score in each of the next two periods to grab an insurmountable 24-0 lead. Senior captain John Ryder had a memorable day, factoring in each of the four scores. Twice he passed to John Deahl for tallies and twice more took the ball in himself to lead the Blue and White offense.
The first victory of the season for the roughnecks put the boys in high spirits.~ Res Gestae 1941
