Toney’s 28 Buries Southold

December 6, 2017

James Toney continued his torrid scoring pace with 28 points this evening to lead the boys’ basketball team to a dominant 61-41 victory at Southold. Through the season’s first three games the senior is averaging 22 points, mirroring the average margin of victory (22.3) of the offense he is so effortlessly spearheading.

The Bears jumped on the Settlers in a 21-7 opening quarter and pushed their lead to 35-19 at the half. The Settlers saw more of the same in the third frame as Emil Vaughn, Owen Sobel, and Seamus Scanlon each robbed a Settler and scored a fast break layup to push the lead to 49-24. The Settlers continued to battle in the final frame, winning it 15-12 as the Bears wrapped up their 11th victory in their last 12 games vs. Southold dating back to 2011.

Toney grabbed 14 rebounds to go with his 28 points while Scanlon (10), Vaughn (8), Sobel (7), Jai Narain (6), and Antonio Rizzo (2) rounded out the scoring.

The Bears are back in action on Friday evening in a non-league match-up with Kew-Forest in the Portledge Tip-Off Tournament.
