On This Day In History | 2001

September 11, 2011

On this day 10 years ago there were no Stony Brook athletic contests.  The daily rhythms and relative simplicity of our lives was interrupted by the unconscionable acts of a handful of evil men.  It was difficult to foresee on that heartrending day whether or not life would return to normal, if we could again enjoy watching something as simple and enjoyable as a high school athletic contest.  But what America showed in the wake of tragedy is its resilience because we have defeated terrorism every one of the 3,652 days that have passed since September 11, 2001 by returning to our way of life and enjoying the freedoms that this great nation provides.  However, we are still sobered on this day by the lives that were lost.  For those gone and for those that remain we will never forget.
