On this day 24 years ago, Stony Brook Hall of Famer Jordan Nixon pitched the finest game of his career in a 10-1, no-hit mastery of Hampton Bays. Nixon’s lone run came in the top of the 1st inning, an unearned tally that came around by way of two Stony Brook errors. From there Nixon was untouchable for the eventual Class C/D County Champions, as he struck out 11 Baymen.

In the bottom half of the 1st, the Brook grabbed the lead right back. Dan Jewiss reached base with a one-out walk. Back-to-back singles by Rob Dambra and Doug Alioth scored Jewiss, then, after a strikeout, Chris Slavinsky and Dave Morabito both walked to bring in Dambra for a 2-0 lead. The scoring continued in the 2nd as Glenn Rustay reached base on a walk, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Nixon followed with a walk, advanced to second on a fielder’s choice, then stole third. Then, Nixon completed one of the rarest feats in baseball by stealing home to give the Brook a 3-1 lead.

The Shrikes brought home four runs in all in the 2nd inning, two courtesy of a Slavinsky double, to take a commanding 6-1 advantage. Four more runs for the Blue and White in the bottom of the 5th made their edge insurmountable, paving the way for Nixon’s memorable milestone. Alioth finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs to lead a patient offense that drew 12 walks, continually stocking the bases for the Brook’s clutch hitters.
