On this day 44 years ago…

The 1966 cross country team continued the school’s tradition of dominance by completing another successful dual meet season. Their lone loss came against the Princeton University freshmen, but they won each of their other four meets against Syosset, Red Bank Catholic, the Hill School, and the West Point Plebes, who they outpaced for the fourth straight year.

With the regular season in their rearview, the harriers set their sights on the invitationals. The previous year the boys had finished in 2nd place out of 24 teams at the prestigious St. John’s Invitational and were determined to capture the title this time around. Dan Stevens paced the Brookers and, despite losing track of his position and yielding the individual title, led the Blue and White to the team victory for the first time since 1964 when Peter Randall and Glenn Ogden intentionally tied for the win.
